2025: Cinema Femme magazine

READ THE WINTER ISSUE!

Dear Cinema Femme readers,

What initially inspired the theme of this issue is Tina Romero. My friend Natalie Metzger, VP of Production at Vanishing Angle, was sharing her excitement about producing Tina’s feature debut, which happened to be a zombie film. I read a piece about Tina and learned that she was the daughter of George Romero, the legendary filmmaker who is known for “Night of the Living Dead,” (1968) “Dawn of the Dead,” (1978) and “Day of the Dead” (1985).

After reading the article, I immediately reached out to Natalie asking if I could cover Tina’s film, and do an interview with her. Natalie facilitated and also got me in touch with her female led behind the scenes team, who were mostly all Queer women. I quickly learned why Natalie was excited about this project after meeting Tina and the team. Tina Romero, like her father, is a visionary who seeks to be authentic in her storytelling. What filled my heart with joy is the way the team responded to Tina and worked magic in bringing her vision to life. Glitter blood, dancing, music, and vibrant colors hint at what this audacious film will be on screen. I haven’t even seen it yet, but I’m on board. With a team and director like this, how could you not? The film debuts later this year.

In addition to our cover story, we have six essays related to recent horror or horror adjacent films directed by women and non-binary people as well as one on the Cronenberg classic “Crash.” We also have coverage of last year’s Astras awards, along with profiles of indie distribution leader Elizabeth Woodward from WILLA and UK-based filmmaker Claudia Lee, the latter of whom received our 2024 Phenomenal Person in Film award for her beautiful short film, “Bodily Renaissance.”

It is an honor to share this inaugural issue with you. This is the beginning of something special.

A special thank you to our contributors, our designer Justyna Lepa, and our Editor in Chief Anna Pattison for your talented work. Also, a special thank you to Tavi Veraldi for illustrating the mind-blowing cover.

Sincerely,

Rebecca Martin Fagerholm

Executive Director of Cinema Femme and Publisher of Cinema Femme magazine
