About the Speaker
Katie Bignell founded Festival Formula in 2014 and brings over 20 years of industry experience. She provides strategic support to filmmakers worldwide and is an active member of the Short Film Conference and the Film Festival Alliance. Katie is also a leading voice on festival-related issues, with coverage in The Hollywood Reporter and Screen Daily addressing fraudulent film festivals.
She co-created the Filmmaker Lounge in partnership with Film Festival Alliance—an online space for filmmakers and programmers to connect. Her speaking engagements include HollyShorts, Heartland Film Festival, BFI Flare, Clermont-Ferrand International Short Film Festival, Sundance, and SXSW. She has also served on juries for numerous major festivals.
Katie was co-recipient of the Pioneering Spirit Award from Heartland Film (2024), and Festival Formula has received multiple honors including Outstanding Contribution to Film (London Breeze Film Festival, 2024) and the Impact Award (Poppy Jasper International Film Festival, 2025).
In 2026, she serves as the Festival Expert for the inaugural online education programme launched by the University of Exeter in conjunction with David Putnam’s Atticus Education and Screen International.
