A peek behind the post-production curtain! Join us for a moderated conversation with film veterans specializing in edit, sound design, color correction and finish. This discussion will focus on the inner workings of feature, short form, and TV post-production. Moderated by Joanna Woods, an Executive Producer at Optimus in collab with Noisefloor and Periscope Post & Audio. Panelists include Katie Waters (Foley Artist, Noisefloor), Victoria Salazar (Location Audio Lead and Sound Editor, Noisefloor), Thea Ilic (Post-Production Coordinator, Periscope Post & Audio), Emily Kaberlein (Assistant Editor, Periscope Post & Audio), and Ana Christian (Editor, Anachrony Post).

Meet the moderator

Joanna Woods – Executive Producer / Optimus

An Executive Producer at Optimus, Woods joined the Chicago film and advertising community in 2010. With over a decade of post-production experience in commercial, documentary, short, and feature content, she is passionate about bringing film to life. Film Executive/Post-Producer credits include: “All Happy Families”(2023), Pearl Jam’s feature “Let’s Play Two”(2017), and Season 1 of Uninterrupted’s sports documentary series “Top Class”(2021) streaming on Amazon/Freevee. Woods is always excited to support and collaborate with Chicago’s stellar filmmaking community.

Katie Waters – Foley Artist / Noisefloor

Katie Waters took an interest in acting in school plays at the age of 12. During her senior year in high school, she took a Film editing class that led her to studying Film with a focus in Post Production Sound at Columbia College Chicago, which is where she first learned of Foley in “The Art & Craft of Foley” course. After graduating from college, she interned at various post production companies that gave her an extensive view into post production with a wide range of mediums from advertising, independent film and video games. In 2014, Noisefloor, the premiere Chicago sound and music facility, hired Katie as Studio Manager and in 2016 she tried her hand at Producing sound at the studio, where she brought solutions to clients to craft the best sound and music tracks for their projects with budget and schedules always in mind.. In 2021, Katie stepped on to the Foley stage after being promoted to Noisefloor’s in-house Foley Artist. Over the years, she’s focused on her craft by cueing, performing, recording, editing, and supervising Foley. Her ability to wear a lot of hats, small town charm, determination, detective and quality control skills are what makes the sound effects she helps create fit like a glove in the soundtrack. Her work has been nominated for G.A.N.G. (GAME AUDIO NETWORK GUILD) awards and MPSE Golden Reel awards for their teams cinematic work on the video game Destiny 2. Katie is an active member of the Motion Picture Sound Editors organization and has worked on titles such as: Bettendorf Talks, After Death, Another Happy Day, and Alien: Night Shift.

Victoria Salazar – Sound Designer / Noisefloor

Victoria Salazar is a Sound Designer at Noisefloor LTD. Starting out on set doing location audio she has taken all of her experience working with sound and has worked on films like Ghost of the Void and The Stylist. She also sound designed for video games such as Destiney 2 and TMNT: Mutant Madness.

Emily Kaberlein – Assistant Editor / Periscope Post and Audio

Emily Kaberlein is an Assistant Editor and Digital Intermediate at Periscope Post and Audio. She studied and graduated from Columbia College, and has since worked in both LA and Chicago on various projects. Emily started out working in commercial, but has shifted her focus on features and television these days. Outside of PPA you can find her reading a book, or playing with her animals.

Thea Illic – Post Production Coordinator / Periscope Post & Audio

Thea is a film director, visual artist and at all other times – a post production coordinator at Periscope Post & Audio. She studied film in Europe in the small but dynamic city called Belgrade, where she was born and raised. Since she moved to the US, to pursue her career in Film four years ago, she has been a part of various productions that include Apple TV+ and Warner Bros, as well as independent but impactful film projects. Thea is a feminist, dedicated to telling stories while implementing creativity and imagination, thirsty for underdogs and minority voices. Thea is a fashion and cats admirer!

Ana Christian – Editor / Anachrony Post

Ana is a Chicago-based editor and an energetic contributor to the Chicago independent filmmaking scene. She received her Bachelor’s degree in Film Production from the University of Notre Dame and Masters in Post Production from DePaul University. Her experience spans independent feature films, episodic television, narrative shorts, documentary, music videos, and branded content. Ana is a passionate storyteller who thrives on bringing unique narratives and creative visions to life through the magic of post-production. Her lifetime of study as both a dancer and musician help her to bring a unique confluence of skills to her editorial work, bestowing her signature style with an innate sense of rhythm, movement and fluidity. She is a relentless problem-solver and relishes the challenge of any editorial puzzle placed before her.

Ana recently co-founded Journeywork Entertainment with her husband, Ryan Stemple, to provide full visual post-production and post-supervision services to independent filmmakers. Their recent feature film credits under that banner include Good Guy With A GunReporting For Christmas, and Single Car Crashes.
