Last week we had an exclusive screening of “Shiva Baby” followed by a 30-minute Q&A with director Emma Seligman. The Q&A will be moderated by Cinema Femme contributor Dawn Borchardt, podcast host of Faux Reel.

Emma Seligman is a Canadian filmmaker based in New York. She graduated from NYU’s Undergraduate Film & TV program in May 2017, where she made her first two short films, including her thesis, “Shiva Baby”, which premiered at South by Southwest Film Festival 2018, went on to play Palm Springs ShortFest and many other festivals. She expanded Shiva Baby into a feature film starring Rachel Sennott, Polly Draper, Dianna Agron, Molly Gordon, Fred Melamed and Danny Deferrari that was selected to screen at South by Southwest Film Festival, Melbourne International Film Festival, Outfest LA, Deauville American Film Festival and Toronto International Film Festival in 2020.

Dawn Borchardt is a Salt Lake City-based film festival producer, film podcaster and filmmaker. She has worked at many film festivals around the US including Sundance and the LA Film Fest, and currently produces the Freeland Film Fest which focuses on sharing stories that inspire. She hosts the podcast Faux Reel interviewing indie filmmakers about how their personal histories and beliefs interweave with the stories they share on screen. Dawn’s lifelong love of horror film is what got her immersed in the film world, ultimately landing her focus on experimental work, documentaries and stories that inspire change.
